The Joust · Game license

End User License Agreement

Last updated: July 14, 2026

The short version

This is the game license, not a trap. If you lawfully obtain The Joust, you may install and play it for your personal, non-commercial enjoyment.

Please do not resell or distribute the game, bypass its protections, cheat, or interfere with other riders. The details below preserve that straightforward bargain.

This agreement

This End User License Agreement (the “EULA”) is an agreement between you and The Joust team (“The Joust,” “we,” or “us”). It applies to The Joust game software and the related updates, patches, downloadable content, documentation, and game assets we provide (together, the “Game”).

By downloading, installing, launching, or using the Game, you agree to this EULA. If you do not agree, please do not install or use the Game. Our Terms of Service also apply to online features, and our Privacy Policy explains our limited handling of player data.

Your license to play

As long as you follow this EULA, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Game for non-commercial entertainment on devices and through accounts permitted by the platform where you obtained it.

The Game is licensed, not sold. You receive permission to use it; ownership of the Game and its intellectual property stays with The Joust and our licensors.

What you may do

  • install and play a lawfully obtained copy of the Game for personal, non-commercial use;
  • use platform-supported backup, family, or device features when the platform permits them; and
  • share ordinary gameplay screenshots and videos for personal, community, or non-commercial purposes, so long as you respect third-party rights and do not imply official endorsement.

If you want to use the Game, its assets, or The Joust brand for a commercial project, please contact us first. We would rather have a conversation than leave you guessing.

What the license does not allow

Except where applicable law expressly allows it, please do not:

  • copy, distribute, sell, rent, lease, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Game;
  • reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or try to derive the Game's source code;
  • remove ownership notices or bypass access controls, security, or technical protections;
  • use cheats, bots, unauthorized tools, or modified software to gain an unfair advantage or disrupt online play; or
  • use the Game to operate a commercial service without our written permission.

Nothing here prevents you from doing something that applicable law says we cannot prohibit.

Ownership

The Joust and its licensors retain all rights in the Game, including its code, characters, artwork, animation, audio, text, trademarks, and other content. Any third-party components remain the property of their respective owners and may be subject to separate notices or license terms included with the Game.

Updates and online play

We may provide patches, balance changes, security updates, and new or revised features. A platform may install updates automatically, and an update may be required to continue using online features. Some features may require an internet connection and a Steam or other platform account.

Games evolve. We may change or retire features when reasonably necessary for balance, security, technical health, or the future of the Game. We will try to communicate material changes when practical.

Steam and other platforms

If you obtain the Game through Steam, your Steam account and use of Steam are governed by the Steam Subscriber Agreement. Steam processes purchases and handles eligible refund requests under the Steam Refunds policy. Other distributors may apply their own terms in the same way.

Where a platform rule conflicts with this EULA about that platform's services, the platform rule controls for those services. This EULA continues to govern your license to the Game to the extent it does not conflict.

Ending the license

You may end this EULA at any time by uninstalling the Game and stopping its use. If you materially break this EULA, your license may end and we may ask you to stop using or delete the Game. When appropriate, we will favor a warning or a chance to correct the issue before ending access, unless prompt action is needed to protect players, the Game, or its security.

Provisions about ownership, warranty limits, liability limits, and other terms that naturally need to continue will survive the end of this EULA.

Warranties and responsibility

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Game is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not promise that it will always be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device or configuration. Nothing in this EULA removes warranties or consumer rights that the law where you live does not allow us to exclude.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Joust is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses arising from the Game. We do not limit responsibility where doing so would be unlawful.

Changes to this EULA

We may update this EULA as the Game develops or legal requirements change. We will update the date above and, when practical, give reasonable notice of material changes. If you do not accept an updated EULA, you may stop using and uninstall the Game.
